Bio Innovation Project for Africa

Overall Objective: To support the Mintoum community in the development of a Community Bio-cultural Protocol (CBP), and in the negotiation and implementation of mutually agreed terms (MAT) with the company V. MANE et Fils within the framework of the ABS law.
Results obtained:
- The Mintoum community's CBP is available and accessible. The CBP outlines.
- A contract signed between the Mintoum community and the French company V. MANE et Fils. The community has committed to providing the 04-sided Tetrapleura tetraptera (TT) pods to the French company, which uses them to produce raw materials for flavors and perfumes.
- A guaranteed source of funding for the communities, who will receive 2000frs/kg sold of TT and 1.5% of the turnover that the French company will generate through its international sales.
- Through numerous training sessions, the community is able to provide quality dried TT pods to the company.
- The communities better understand the challenges of biodiversity preservation, the role of a Biodiversity Action Plan, and have identified actions they will take to preserve biodiversity in their community.
- The communities have acquired practical knowledge on the construction and installation of beehives, as well as monitoring, and are able to launch into this income-generating activity.
